Transcription: This marble statue of Alexander Hamilton Stevens was a gift from the state of Georgia. Stevens served in the House of Representatives and later became the Vice President of the Confederacy from 1861 to 1865. Stevens was twice elected to the U.S. Senate after the Civil War, but was denied admission.
